Deja’Vu Club and Lounge |

You might wonder where the young locals and expats go to get good electronic beats and good cocktails. The answer would most probably be the longstanding, one and only, Deja’Vu.
A club and a lounge, this is the place where one can sit on a comfortable sofa on the beachfront, enjoying good cocktails and thumping beats from local and international DJs, surrounded by fashionable people. Located on the famous Blue Ocean Beach at the end of Jalan Double 6, it is quite a big place and can accommodate 500 people in two living areas; a breezy terrace facing the beach and a full AC indoor area. The modern art deco design is dominated with funky red, black and white hand painted walls.
Deja’Vu serves a large variety of drinks from house pours and cocktails to a selection of wine, champagne, and cigars. The eight meter bar, sparkling with LED background display, is always busy after midnight with bar tenders preparing some of the best cocktails on the island. If Deja’Vu’s bar was a musical band than Rangga Tri would be the lead vocalist. Quick with his hands, the young, and talented mixologist prepares his hottest signature drinks for us to try.
Sudden Death opens the cocktail session with a bang. A special Deja’Vu mix of six spirits, four liquors, grenadine and tonic, death is actually what happen to your brain if you have a wee bit too much! A Tropical Wave is next, a refreshing choice of a long fruity drink with a mix of four spirits including vodka, Bacardi and Triple sec, topped with fresh pineapple juice and grenadine. I personally order Factor 69, a sweet mix of tequila, Midori, Cointreau and lime juice.
The propelling force behind the success of Deja’Vu is Riri Djalil, the funky general manager. Under her watchful eye the bar has become very successful, and has won many popular magazine awards including ‘The Best Club/Dance/DJ’ and ‘The Best Nightspot’ in 2006 and 2007, and for Riri herself, the ‘Best Magazine Personality ‘award three years in a row! “Every party here is always memorable,” says this feisty woman. “Not only the best local and international DJs playing house crossover with a 10,000 watt sound system, we also got all sorts of trendy entertainers such as dancers and regular fashion shows from famous designers.” How about door policy? “Smart casual, no topless, and always wear footwear. No naked feet allowed here even if you’re coming straight from the beach,” she says with a smile.
Our next round of drinks comes; the Kir Royale in a chilled champagne glass. Another fruity choice is the Colada Splash Strawberry, a mix of Bacardi, pineapple liquor and juice, Malibu, coconut milk and syrup. This one is my favorite! Another special fruity drink is the Red Deja’Vu, a mix of vodka, Myers, Cointreau, cranberry, orange, pineapple and lime juice, topped with grenadine. This is more than enough to keep us drunk and happy, but Riri won’t let us go without a B52 shooter. Forget driving home..... this kick of sweet Baileys, Sambuca and grenadine has made sure we call a taxi!
