The casual surfer vibe is pervasive, and you can take in all the action on Kuta beach from the comfort of the colourful deck scattered with day beds and recycled teak furniture. The interior is fan-cooled and opens on to a decent size swimming pool, providing a mellow, pretension free hangout joint. Good coffee and hearty breakfasts make the Beach Lounge a popular place in the mornings, try the Surfer Breakfast which has just about everything you could think of on a breakfast plate, or go Indonesian style with the Balinese Sunrise featuring a tropical fruit salad, and hearty fried rice with vegetables, chicken and egg.
The menu is casual and simple, but prepared with the flair and enthusiasm that Chef Boyke is well known for, portions are hungry surfer size, and the Super Surfer Burgers are named after some of the island's biggest breaks, like Padang Padang and Keramas. The Uluwatu Burger looks like a tower, it's not just double cheese, it's double beef patty, with crispy bacon, caramelised onion and all the trimmings. Surfer Sandwiches come with salads or wedges and include the Beach Break with grilled Cajun chicken fillet and The Barrel with chicken, ham, tomato, avocado and your choice of bread. Indonesian favourites include Beef Rendang and Mie Goreng, and you can also find Grilled Mahi Mahi, Thai Green Chicken Curry and Rib Eye on the menu. The Grilled Chicken Salad has tender warm chicken breast served with mixed greens, beetroot, cucumber and tomato, while the excellent Roasted Pumpkin, Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli features plump ravioli served with a mild and tangy tomato sauce and plenty of parmesan and basil. Chef Boyke can always be counted on to produce a good dessert, and the Apple Pie Crumble is no exception, an individual pie packed with semi sweet apple and topped with a crunchy crumble.
